**Job Summary**:

The Debt Collector is responsible for reaching out to individuals or businesses with overdue payments to recover the outstanding balance. This role involves contacting debtors via phone, email, or mail, negotiating repayment plans, and ensuring compliance with company policies and legal requirements.

 

**Key Responsibilities**:

1. **Contact Debtors**: Make outbound calls, send emails, and letters to individuals or companies with overdue accounts.

2. **Negotiate Payment Plans**: Work with debtors to establish repayment plans that are mutually agreeable while meeting company objectives.

3. **Record Keeping**: Maintain accurate records of communication and transactions with debtors.

4. **Adhere to Legal Guidelines**: Ensure all collection activities are compliant with relevant laws, such as the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).

5. **Follow-Up on Payments**: Track debtor payments and follow up on missed or incomplete payments.

6. **Resolve Disputes**: Address and resolve any disputes related to the amount owed or payment plans.

7. **Customer Service**: Handle debtors with professionalism and empathy, providing excellent customer service throughout the process.

8. **Collaborate with Other Departments**: Work with the legal, finance, and customer service teams to escalate complex cases or disputes when necessary.

 

**Qualifications**:

– A degree in finance, business, or a related field is a plus.

– Proven experience as a debt collector or in a similar role.

– Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.

– Knowledge of relevant legal requirements for debt collection.

– Ability to handle confidential information.

– Comfortable using computer software for managing records and databases.
