POEA Job Position: Senior Carpenter

Location: Papua New Guinea

1. Qualification/Education Requirement

•  Diploma/ Trade Certificate

2. Experience

• More than 5 years hands on experience
• 2+ years’ of experience in finish carpentry
• 3+ years’ of experience in rough carpentry (preferred)

3. Knowledge

• Extensive knowledge of power tools, including skill saw, mitre saw, jigsaw and capable enough to operate the different tools
• Good knowledge in basic hand tools and appropriate usages
• Knowledge of timber grades and countertop materials – Should be capable and have the experience of reading blueprints and interpret it
• Have great stamina to stand for prolonged hours, lift heavy objects, climb, and pull.
• An additional certificate might be necessary
• The candidate should be fit and also have good coordination.
• Completing a recognized apprenticeship or at least a minimum of 4 years of experience as a journey-level carpenter.

4. Role/Expectations

• Can build, adjust and repair wood frameworks both outdoor and indoor works – Capable of erecting, constructing, installing, and also renovating structures made of either wood or various other materials.
• Also fix structures present in the rooms, kitchen, and building frameworks.
• The carpenter should also conduct repair work as and when required.
• They should also install windows, doors, drywall, stairs, cabinets, and various other fixtures when required.
• Must be able to assist the supervisors when planning the structures, designing them, and installing layouts.
• The carpenter can also assess the proper quality of materials and woodworks.
• Carpenters should also maintain compliance with safety and health regulations and the local building codes
• Flexible by nature when working in different and difficult areas with bad temperatures or lack of resources.
• Must have intricate knowledge of Mathematics.
• Any other duties as and when required
