POEA Job Position: Senior Painter

Location: Papua New Guinea

The painter under general supervision, apply coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect both interior and exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of buildings and structures.

Qualification/Education Requirement

  • College Certificate or Diploma as minimum

1. Experience

  •  More than 5 years hands on experience in painting field

2. Knowledge

  • Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools used in painting trade.
  • Knowledge and ability to mix paint to match colors
  • Ability to properly apply paints
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to work independently and or in a team
  • Must be familiar in painting different surfaces including metal (Steel), woods and concrete.

3. Role/Expectations

  • Smooth and prepare surfaces for painting, including sanding and removing old paint.
  • Fill nail holes, cracks, and joints with party, plaster or either filler.
  • Tape, float and texture walls and ceilings
  • Select premixed paints or mixed required portion of pigment, oil and thinning and dying substances to prepare paints to match specified colors.
  • Paint surfaces, using brushes, spray gun or paint rollers and apply paint to obtain special effects.
  • Stain, seal, and varnish wood surfaces.
  • Paint the interior and exterior of buildings and homes, including apartments, townhomes, family dwellings, office complex and etc.
  • Work with contractors and subcontractors to design a timeline regarding when it is best to paint an area or structure to avoid problems while building.
  • Erect scaffolding or setup ladder to perform tasks above ground level
  • Identify needed repairs following inspections
  • Order, pick up and deliver painting materials and assist with paint inventory control
  • Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures
  • Ensure that paints and colors are properly mixed and applied
  • Handle and dispose of paint, stain and varnish and other chemicals according to established procedures
  • Be a lead worker to crews/helpers, maintain adequate supply of stock/materials.
  • Must be able to follow safety procedures and maintain spray equipment.
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools and work in uncomfortable positions when necessary.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as directed by management
